TEA PLANTS (Camellia sinensis)
Did you know you can Grow Your Own Tea? It's true! Camellia Sinensis, also known as the Tea Plant, is the plant that is responsible for the beverage we all know as Tea.
Only after water, Tea is the most consumed beverage in the world. For over 5000 years it has played an unique role in history. It has brought people together and ripped people apart. It has made us feel better, think clearer, and comforted us when we needed it. It affects us all – in body, mind and spirit. It has successfully been grown in regions all across the globe in both large scale plantations and in back yard gardens.
All tea, whether it is Green, Black, Oolong, Silver, White, Matcha, etc are all from one plant species, Camellia Sinensis. It's the way it's grown and processed that determines the type of tea you end up with. For example, consider Potatoes.....French Fries, Potato Chips, Mashed Potatoes, or Potato Soup is all made from one common potato, but the way you process it gives you your end result.
Growing Your Own Tea is healthier to consume and will be very rewarding to actually produce your own tea. It’s something the whole family can enjoy in even the smallest of places. Camellia sinensis or Tea is the ultimate edible! But it's not just about the tea....Camellia sinensis is also a beautiful flowering shrub that can add beauty to your landscape garden!
Tsubaki Tea™ is a collection of specifically chosen plants of Camellia Sinensis that are proven performers in the landscape garden. These are not "generic" tea plants like you see from internet plant suppliers. They are developed, grown and selected to be the highest quality plants that will give you years of enjoyment. Why Different Varieties?
We will offer from time to time, different varieties, or cultivars of Camellia sinensis. Each variety has unique characteristics that make them different from each other. It may be in growth habits, distinctive foliage, or even flower colors. These differences are aesthetic when used in the garden and have no bearing on the ability to make tea or any different kinds of tea. They can all be used for Tea. Each plant you purchase in a variety will be identical to the next. The exception to this is our Nature's Select Tea™ Collection. They are all seedlings and each one is different.
